I have been a fan of Susan’s work ever since I first started seeing her photos on Facebook. She was a fairly new photographer at that time, and it was wonderful to watch her skills rapidly progress to match her vision. The work she produced got more and more beautiful, creative, and exciting. When she put a call out for models for a project she was doing, I threw my husband’s name in the hat, I knew she’d have fun taking pictures of him, he’s very unique looking. He came home from the photo shoot and reported that they’d had a great time, so I expected good shots. I was unprepared, though, for how good they were. Karl was in full leathers, on his Harley, wild beard a’flying. And Susan got that, which I guess is the easy part. Those things look great, texturally, and the natural dusk lighting on the leather is really stunning. But she got the hidden stuff, his kindness and warmth, and they hadn’t even met prior to the shoot. I had known Susan could take absolutely magical photos of her grandchildren, but I was beyond impressed with the magical way she was able to capture the complexity of this big man on a motorcycle.
When my daughter told me, somewhat last minute, that she needed head shots for an acting job, I thought immediately of Susan. She came to our rescue, and on a gray and rainy day arrived to take pictures of my extremely nervous teen. Susan was amazing. Somehow she managed to sweetly reassure my daughter, pose her, check her camera screen and settings, and adjust the position of the mylar reflector, all simultaneously. My daughter was certain they’d need to be redone, but lo and behold, that magic of Susan’s is strong. The finished photos show a relaxed and confident young lady, sun gently illuminating her serene face. No exaggeration, the portraits are magnificent. The angles Susan chose, the lighting she captured, and again, the way she was able to convey who my daughter is, not just the way she looks, took my breath away when I saw them. Even my daughter was thrilled. She asked me to add the following: “Susan was so sweet and easy to work with, and her sense of color and lighting is totally amazing. I love the photos she took of me!” So in short, five stars from the whole family.
